Training course DICOM Advanced

Summary of course content
This course will provide the attendee with:

  • In depth knowledge of DICOM topics in preparation for detailed troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on troobleshooting experience. The use of tools will be taught particularly for troubleshooting DICOM headers and connections using a DICOM sniffer and other tools. Attendees will get a set of test images and several test and a set of freely available validation, simulation and testing tools. This is a hands-on class; about 1/3rd of the time will be spent on hands-on exercises.
  • Best practices - quick references to the materials, a list of DICOM terms, a concise set of DICOM rules.

Who Should Attend
This training course is meant for seasoned professionals who like to enhance their DICOM skills by looking at the DICOM protocol in depth, and who would like to be able to troubleshoot DICOM headers and connections using test, validation and simulation tools. Emphasis is placed on practical topics and hands on exercises. 
The target audience includes those installing, configuring, and maintaining DICOM based equipment, e.g. service engineers, PACS administrators, technicians, hospital personnel with technical background.

Goals of the training course
Upon completion of this training course, attendees will be able to:

  • Troubleshoot DICOM connectivity issues - use verification, validation and sniffer tools.
  • Use a library of images and test tools to anticipate any interconnectivity issues.
  • Understand how to fully use the documentation, and how to reach out to other experts
  • Understand important DICOM SOP classes in detail.
  • Prepare environment for new DICOM objects such as Structured Reports, Enhanced SOP classes and other recent extensions.

Prerequisites:
The attendees are assumed to have prior experience with DICOM (i.e. know how to read a DICOM conformance statement; have worked with DICOM objects) to be familiar with imaging workflows as well as the basics of HL7 v2 order and results messages. 

You are encouraged to bring your computer/laptop which should have a windows OS (not Apple OS) and a (fixed) Ethernet connection as we will connect these to a virtual test environment during the seminar. You are also encouraged to bring your own log files or network captures for general discussion during the training course.
